Shawna Miller and LUCIA

RESONANCE

May 03 - MAY 24, 2025

Helm Contemporary presents Resonance, a collaborative exhibition by Shawna Miller and LUCIA. Marking their New York debut, the exhibition invites viewers to explore the emotional architectures of connection, care, and belonging. In a moment when themes of intimacy and relational power are more urgent than ever, Resonance offers a space for reflection, elevating the transformative power of emotional proximity.

Miller's oil paintings capture moments of quiet connection, often between mother and child. These intimate gestures of rest and embrace serve as universal symbols of care, reflecting on the profound dynamics of holding and being held. LUCIA's light and sound installation extends these ideas into the environment: as viewers approach, a 528 hertz frequency grows in intensity, and light expands in response, revealing the subtle ripple effects of co-regulation and presence.

SONORA COLLECTIVE

In conjunction with the exhibition, Sonora Collective presented a special performance featuring an all-women ensemble of classically trained musicians. This concert for Helm Contemporary audiences underscores the growing consciousness of women in the arts, celebrating their vital contributions and impact. Sonora Collective founders Julia Danitz and Katie Althen-Velázquez offer immersive, transformative experiences that reflect the vision and influence of women shaping contemporary art.
